Yesterday and day before were buy nothing days (BND). This is the reason why I decided it would be that day that I wouldn’t buy those:
The dress is Preen Line’s. Shoes are Brian Atwood Lola Purple suede leather pumps. The ring is De Beers’ Talisman Organic ring, and the Necklace is Givenchy’s. Burberry oversized white python bag and Cutler and Gross sunglasses complete the ensemble. As I was saying yesterday, I am able to match only two colors + white and silver I don’t really consider colors. The total is around $14 000.
I like big, comfortable sofas to throw myself in when I go home without worrying about scratching it and mess it up. Brown and white leather ones above are of fraternal twin of Cinephile collection. I know that I can customize Roche Bobois sofas. I’d take the bigger one in a light clear fabric between ecru and grey mastic. I just wanted to show you the sofas. Except for the big Morrocan- like lamps in the right back, I’m not into this king of deco.
Watch the video. It’s massive.
For my bed, I’d choose a futon like the Futon Bretagne’s above. I prefer sleek lines and solid wood. What I like the most in futons is that they’re low couch. I enter the room, and I don’t really notice the bed. It gives me a feeling of space and light.
Because I’m on my spree way, I’d take this Nespresso Citiz coffee maker and this Breville all-electric toaster. I push the button and my slice of bread goes in (bzzzzz). No need to fight with the lever. bzzz. It’s done. Oh I’m not happy with the browning. I push a bit more. bzzz. It’s done. I add a Krups blender for my smoothies and a All clad waffle maker. Breakfast tiiiime. Hooray
Total home expense is $12 000.
Since I can’t find room in my big penthouse (ah ah ah) for those, I need a new one. I’ll start my research the day after tomorrow.
Thanks to Buy Nothing Day, I didn’t consume $26 000 yesterday. Wow, this day is very useful in preventing mass consumption and emerging countries from getting poorer.
Seriously, is that a joke? If western countries do not consume, how big companies will make money. If big companies don’t make money, how small companies that rely on them for part of their business will make business. If big and small companies don’t make money, how western people get paid? If western people don’t get paid, how are they gonna travel, observe poverty elsewhere and care about it? And if the latter, what activist of all kind will do of their wonderful life dedicated to rescue the world? Do they really believe that a single day without buying goods and services will rescue the world? Do they really believe that it is possible to get back to the past and how we lived before. Do they really believe that giving money to emerging countries, instead of spending it, is enough for helping ¬†them grow bigger and richer? I would not buy from a label known from farming children or for having an unethical way of doing business. I say ‘known’, because I’m not everywhere to see by myself what is going on everywhere. Yet, I won’t stop buying for an idealistic concept that is not grounded in the reality. The reality is that life is jungle. If we don’t grow up, we die. Kind of. If a country doesn’t grow up, it dies. And thriving business is the reason why western countries are thriving. I believe that for emerging as a country, it must come from inside. It is taking local politics accountable for what is going on, educating children, gaining respect and recognition from managing on their own emerging and thriving. Otherwise, it’s not sustainable. And get folks guilty with a Buy Nothing Day. Well. For what? What’s different in emerging countries the day after? Today? What’s different after several years of celebrating that day?
