Well before its show, I heard much fuss about Ungaro Spring 2010 Collection. The buzz keeps going on after it. Well the reviews are far from utterly positive. Though,  Lindsay Lohan appointment as fashion advisor has drawn serious attention, talk and lines to Ungaro house during the fashion month.
Second (wait for the 1st/) I am not disappointed. I am Ready To Wear this collection. I expect from Haute Couture collection¬†spectacular outfits. From Ready To Wear collection, I crave for wearable pieces in my day-to-night-to-day-to-night life. ¬†Ungaro’s Spring 2010 collection fulfill my fashion appetite. I like especially ¬†the dresses, their lines, lengths and colors. It’s nothing new, I agree, but it’s efficient. Ok, one dress undressed one model’s rear. That’s no problem for me since I’m not 6′ tall. Most of all, my caramel skin tone is happy with the pop blue, pink, yellow, orange, bright-white colors. I like the sequined details. I like the treggings. I like the low-waist loose pants and the cropped jackets. Unfortunately, Ungaro didn’t make the whole collection just for my pleasure. I am no fan of the long floppy jackets and loose pants.¬†I guess I need to let go some pieces to others.
Here is the first. Mounir Moufarrige, the not-so-new CEO, looks like business clever (Stella Mc Cartney appointment at Chlo√© is just one example). And maybe Linday Lohan appointment as artistic advisor is wiser than it appeared first. Though the french house is successful as a whole, the runway collection has lost money for years. L. Lo likes fashion. Though she’s not created the mini dress, let’s say ¬†she has eye for style. Well, there’s a gap between being fashion and creating fashion. That’s why¬†she’s not creator or manager. She’s advisor. By hiring L. Lo, Mounir Moufarrige¬†has just created the buzz around Ungaro. It’s been one month everyone, and not only the fashion micro world,¬†is talking about Ungaro. Hiring a recognised designer, unless it be Karl Lagerfeld, or a bigger movie star would have created less talking, especially outside fashion microcosmos. It’s so brilliant an idea that every voice that counts in fashion industry from editors to star buyers to journalists attended the show. And most of all, folks – the¬†major part of the population who doesn’t attend shows, doesn’t take a look at fashion shows, but does read the news, and does hear the rumors – will soon run into Ungaro boutiques to see what is the fuss about. A few $million – or maybe less – into an advisor/ walking advertising has drawn more attention to the present season and at least the following one than several $millions into communication, marketing and hiring all together fees.
In this crisis mess we are all in, I applaud M. Moufarrige inspired strategic move.
Below are my favorite pieces I picked on NYT Fashion and Style website.
