Louis Vuitton Spring 09 campaign with Madonna

What’s funny is that I used to not like Louis Vuitton a lot. The reasons are plenty.

Ellen is gonna make not 2 but 4 covers of O magazine

It won’t be 2, but 4 covers for Ellen together with Oprah on O magazine cover. The 2 extra covers will be released with holidays special issue.

Looks like that Ellen has it all at the end. I love those covers. They exude such a joy and happiness. That’s it. I can’t wait for Xmas to be there.

Camilla Skovgaard unveils her Winter 09/10 collection

I discovered Camilla Skovgaard label while searching my shoes for my sister’s wedding. Yeah, I know, it’s not the first time I’m talking about that, but it was a large part of my Spring 2009. She’s my big sis I love. We live in different continents, and I’m lucky if I see her 10 days/ year. You guess how it was a very special event for us. I started looking my ‘wedding outfits’ 6 months before the due date. I wanted something unique. No way my shoes or my clutch could look like my cousins’. I made up my mind on a short dress and I knew my mom would find that inappropriate. I needed original, sophisticated and remarkable shoes to make her forget those legs out. But, even if San Francisco may be very honorable in terms of fashion, I found out only ‘classic’ pieces. They don’t go into special things as Paris and NY do. Or if they do, it’s with well established brands like Louboutin, Balenciaga, Balmain, Zanotti and like. For example, I stopped on those black gladiator Balenciagas and those jewelled Balmains Jennifer Connelly donned at ‘He’s just not that into you’ premiere. But they were beyond my price bracket.

I liked those 4” heel Jean Michel Cazabat sandals as well. Though the glitter and cork finish looked great, I judged that they were too expensive for such a poor material. Plus, they didn’t dress up my feet enough to balance my undressed legs.

Then I tried desperately to get Rodolphe Menudier booklet. I got snubbed. After days of research on the Internet, I stumbled into Camilla Skovgaard green Saddle python sandals. Once I saw them, I have known they were the ones. The booty-style would dress up my feet enough. The python was noble enough and the green color unusual enough. Between us, I don’t like green usually.

It's NYC 40th marathon today
November 1st, 2009

It's NYC 40th marathon today

“I’m a racer. I just want to win the race” said the 3 times winner of NYC marathon, Paula Radcliffe. No wonder why she’s today favorite. Like every first Sunday of November and for the 40th year, NYC streets beats at the rhythm of runners’ footstep paving the macadam. This year, the bad economic outlook has made the committee rise the fee to $138 for members of the NY Road Runners, $171 for non-member, and $231 for those entering the international lottery ($13, $16$, $21 extra over 2008 edition). Yeah, that’s a lot of money to have the privilege to throw up your heart and soul after 42.195 km (about 26 miles).

NYC marathon 2008. It's like they're flying. Paula Radcliffe, first on this pic, averaged 12.5 mph (20 km/h). Can you believe that?

Rodolphe Menudier’s shoes
October 26th, 2009

Rodolphe Menudier’s shoes

My very first pair of luxury shoes has been camel Rodolphe Menudier mules. It was seven years ago in July 02. I was in Paris for some days between my finals and coming back home. It was the middle of summer sales and Zara and my usual stores has been devastated. Hence I decided to make some luxury stores. I got into Rodolphe Menudier store (14, rue de Castiglione, Paris) at walking distance from Place Vendôme. While I looked like a student (i.e. poor), the shoe advisor was truely friendly.

Madeleine Vionnet, a fashion purist
“What I did is not fashion. It was designed to last forever” said the woman known as the architect of dressmakers. I attended Madeleine Vionnet, puriste de la mode, exhibit last week at The Musée des Arts Décoratifs (107 rue de Rivoli, Paris, Mo Palais Royal). Thrice I was in Paris in the last months, twice I couldn’t attend the exhibit. You imagine how I was thrilled to eventually do it last week. The exhibit lasts until end of January 2010 and showcases more than 130 (fairy) dresses that Vionnet fabricated. I was stunned to figure out how modern the dresses are. They date back to the beginning of the century and they look like contemporary dresses. If you pay a visit, do not hesitate to take the guided tour to understand the era’s context and get full explanation about Madeleine Vionnet’s talent.

Nobel Peace Prize 2009 to Barack Obama. Really?

Picture 4

(pic from Nobelprize.org)

Washington D.C. was still sleeping when the Nobel Prize committee released the news. Are you kidding? The Nobel Peace Prize 2009 awarded to Barack Obama for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people”! Seriously? Is that a joke? And Michelle Obama has incredible sense of fashion as well? What does the committee think about Nicolas Sarkozy, Angela Merkel or Grodon Brown to name a few? Yes, they pamper bilateral relationships with countries they trade with. It’s part of the job.
