May 1st is a holiday bank in France. We celebrate work day … by not going to work! How wonderful is that?

There are two traditions today:
We never work on May 1st. It’s been quite long that some people advocate (employers actually) that stores should open at bank holidays because it’s the best day to consume and make money. Other people (mostly employees) say that’s idiot. They rather prefer enjoy the countryside than consume and consume. But, specifically in Paris, employers tends to win (they pay, they rule) and stores open their doors at holiday banks. Myself, I may understand that argument. I’m a freelance and I’m quite happy that 1st May is a Sat this year. Since my contractors never work on Sat, I don’t myself. (Hey! no work means no money!).
But on May 1st, streets are as empty as the desert. Only some flower shops and restaurant open up.

That leads us the the 2nd second tradition: lily of the valley we offer to our loved ones every May 1st.Ok now it’s commercial enough to offer it to everyone around.
Yes it’s a parsley on the top. Isn’t it poetry?
Today morning I had brunch at Breakfast in America at Rue des Ecoles, Paris 5, and I bought myself 2 stems on my coming back home to some street seller. He offered me one free. How cool was he!

They are so odorous. Do you think they feel sad getting locked up that way in glass walls?
