I took one entire week off 1 month ago. For 8 months I had no vacation. I decided that I was deserving a treat. A big one! A club sandwich at La Terasse du Plaza. At €25 ($32) the couple of bread slices… It’s a treat ? Right. But as you know I’m a big fan of the Plaza Athénée brunch. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. You bet I wasn’t.

Once sit down, and the menu at hand, I went for the lobster club sandwich at €39 ($50). Actually it was a double sandwich cut out in 2 triangles, stuffed with lobster, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, avocado  and a pinch of mayonnaise (I didn’t see it coming, otherwise I’d order it free of it. I don’t eat mayonnaise usually).

One detail that rocks: the bread is toasted just the way it’s best : slighly brown (orange!?) outside, soft inside. At crunch, it was first smoked, then soft and at the end a bud explosion of fresh lobster and avocado.

It came with home made chips – delicious, freshly baked potatoes tasted, dry, free of oil traces or taste – a small baby leafs bowl,

and some extra mayo I didn’t touch. Nope. I don’t eat mayonnaise. It goes against my (diet) religion. Though, this salmon colored pillowed cream was nice to the eyes. Wasn’t it?

Let’s come to the experience to eat in a resort in Paris.I already talked about how I get received in France when I push the door of a store. Whether it’s at an Apple retailer (I’m not talking about Apple store, which the closest experience of what I lived in California), at Chanel, or at restaurant, most of the time, I get received like crap. It’s like I beg someone to give me attitude, cash my cash, and treat me as if I’m one’s dog. Before living one year in California, US. Sellers and advisors are way more friendly accross the Atlantic Ocean.

When I come to Plaza, I get received as if I’m some Thousand and one night Arabic princess. From the doorman to the waiter, I get taken care of. I give you my new best friend (the guy, down there with his red shirt).

So, first, I got welcomed.

Second, I felt protected outside. Here’s my view of the sidewalk.

And, that, my friend is a the icing on the cake when eating outdoors in Paris. No pedestrians walking around your plate as if we are eating all together. Space feeling is the ultimate luxury.

Some close up views of THE sandwich.

As you see, I got what I paid for: chunks of lobster amid vegetables. You see this sandwich? I was not eating bread and vegetable seasoned with proteins. How many sandwich filled with thin protein slices and lots of green leafs has fooled my stomach for €5 ($6). I left the Terasse with my appetite satisfied.
