Goudemalion

I’ve always wondered how Grace Jones sculpted her updo. I wasn’t shocked by her longer neck or her wider mouth. No no no. I was appealed by her haircut. Be it your taste or not, her stature and and sharp face bones made her stand out. But beside her fascinating body and her James Bond’s role, I figured out how much Jean Paul Goude creativity contributed to make from her a timeless, unforgettable bombshell.

Way before Adobe seeded the idea of Photoshop, he used to cut out his negatives to make his pictures look as he was envisioning them. This stunning photo of Grace Jones singing and holding a ballet dancer pause …. well! It’s a fake! It’s cut out pieces of negatives taped together to reproduce the master’s view.
Grace Jones was the part I preferred, but there’s lot more to see. Goude’s 40 years career has been prolific. Vanessa Paradis in her bird cage for the perfume Coco, it’s from him. My Barbie doll shouting at Ken ‘Egoiste’: his fault. The last decade of Galeries Lafayette advertising campaign contributed to revamp Gallerie Lafayette from venerable maison to edgy fashion store is under his creative direction.

One thing that struck me though, is the consistency of his imagery: one subject who stands up to a podium on a neutral, not distracting, forgettable background. Is this business acumen to carry on with what he’s skilled for, or downward creativity after aeons in the business?
If you live in Paris or just visit, go have a look, it’s well invested time. Take the audiophone or leak into a guided group (like me … yeah I know … I feel ashamed every time I do  it …). How was it?

I did a fashion shoot with a Hasselblad H4D

I got my hands on a H4D at the Hasselblad Master day of London. I took the day off a couple of weeks ago and got myself to Shoreditch at the Hasselblad Studio. Amateurs like me, pro and Hasselblad master finalists was attending. Some had flown from France or Spain. It was good fun to meet up with such a wide panel of photographers.

The Hasselblad studio  is fitted with an office space, a kitchen, a fitting room for the models and a mezzanine overlooking the shooting space. We had the choice between 3 H4Ds: 40, 50 and 60 Meg, and several fixed and zoom lenses. I couldn’t believe it when the Hasselblad staff happily handed me the beast. You need to get used to its weight first (it’s heavy), and grabbing the handles and place your fingers in a different way. You always autofocus at the center of the pic (it’s not a multiple points grid) and then recompose, so that my first pics displayed half negative space.

Google +

You may have noted that I post less than usual for a couple of months now. It’s because I’ve been spending my spare time hanging out with fella photographers on Google +, rather than feeding my appetite for fashion with my usual daily reading of blogs and magazines.

I started my blog to chit chat about fashion as much as I wanted to anyone willing to hear from me (understand, not my girlfriends who listen to my fashion blah blah only when they need the special outfit to go stand out). I named it being loving doing rather than fashionbit, fashionreview or fashionstuff since I wanted freedom to step outside to food, handicraft, gym, diet, traveling, hi tech (or should I say Apple), and photography to name a few of what keeps me writing for 2 years now.

Summer at Hyde Park, London

Introducing here a Londoner in her bikini sunbathing in Hyde Park. In town! I do not usually consider myself a conservative. But it looks like Londoners aren’t as well. Would you dare leafing your clothes out in town? I never dared to do it in Paris. I’d felt naked! Well! Is it time to change?

Nope, it’s not me. Just an unfortunate Jane’s Do in the lens of my camera. This picture makes me think about French movies I was watching when I was a youngster. The scenes are in the French countryside. There’s always a blond character. I’m so used to Paris that I have hard time to believe this is shot in town. The new Londoner I am is still in wonder!

Metro Maubert Mutualité, Paris

I wanted hard to move forward out of Paris. And I still feel glad to live in London. I did a 2 days trip to Paris 1 month ago for some administrative duties (I’m still French, though European citizen). And yeah, it’s a magnificent city. I appreciate that Paris wows tourist as I feel proud to have lived it for 7 years.

This is metro Maubert Mutualité station (I guess. I hardly remember, but it should be this one). The underground is just a convenience for me. I don’t really like traveling that way. I take the bus whenever I can in London as well. But this roof is just stunning!

Visit the sensational butterflies at London Natural History Museum

You can’t wait to go to the Caribbean this summer and feel the hot & humid air on your wet skin? But … you live in London, and summer feels like long long looooooong to come (no 24°C/ 75°F is not hot). Don’t feel desperate. You can feel like you’re walking in the tropics: go see the butterflies at London Natural History Museum. It’s sensational.

Borough Market, London

Borough Market, London

I have heard about Borough Market long before I came to live in London from outsiders me as well as Londoners. It’s located nearby London Bridge tube station in South Eastern London. I got out of the tube station to get  greeted by monsters and various ghouls. They are pretty scary actually. They are meant to draw folks into the many horror-houses around there, but they really freaked me out. I flew out to the market as fast as I could.

The market is exactly how one would expect to it to be: full of colors and smell. The first part is mostly French specialities: a wide selection of cheese, wine, baguettes and pastries. Then cross the road to enter the other parts, filled with typical produces, meat and fishes, delicacies and to go burgers.

Have a Bap at Maria’s Market Café. A bap is a burger with a special bread stuffed with meat (not burger meat but true slices of meats) and fresh salad. Then go for a fresh juice and treat yourself with one handmade pastry. All for less than £10 ($16).
