Spring deals

I’m back from Notting Hill with some Spring deals. I like shopping at the very beginning of the season, when the first pieces of the new collections are out. For me they are the finest. And when sales just hit hard my banker face account, Zara‘s tag prices feel right. Since I still feel like a new Londoner, I appreciate walking the racks of British labels that are uncommon in Paris. I reported yet about Twenty8Twelve.

London FW 2012 Fashion Week

London Fashion week was quite fabulous. The kick off was hard. I actually enjoyed the last days better.

Fall Winter 2012 at New York fashion week

It’s already London’s time. Can’t believe it. Dresses and skirts ruled over pants and shorts at NYFW. Midi length has definitely kicked out short bottoms. It looked très dame.

Le cirque du Soleil

Le cirque du Soleil

My boyfriend and I wanted to treat ourselves with something special to celebrate our 1st anniversary as Londoners.

Well we do a fancy dinner very week end or so.

A crazy party? No way, tomorrow I need to wake up and commute for 1 hour to work. One play! why not. I loved to do it when I lived in Paris, and I haven’t seen one since in London! Le Cirque du Soleil!  Yeah perfect. They are in London until mid Feb in the Victoria & Albert Hall. We booked spent our wage on two seats in a logia box.Let me say it-was-worth every penny.

When you step in, you feel like you you opened the door to a fairy tale forest. The music in the background, some ‘creatures’ walking between the rows. Mummy, I’m scared, they come closer. Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

The spectacle starts with a high note with the acrobats falling from the sky and bumping on trampolines. The show is 2-hour long, and there’s no downtime. All the players are both athletes and artists. I was some fairly close but not that close and I could see every muscle move inder the skin. They are all in such an amazing shape. I did feel ashamed to skip the gym that often.

It’s awesome, sensual, hilarious, a must-see. If they come around, do not hesitate to attend. I swear you will not regret it.

Last year my brother and I couldn’t get enough of the Darth Vador Volkswagen ad.

Today’s Sunday crepes

Today’s Sunday crepes

You will believe we can’t help but eat in France. The ‘chandeleur’ is another Christian feast that deserves  its very own treat: crepes. They are kind of thinner larger pancakes. The official date was Friday, but we’re used to celebrate on Sunday with family.

You can find countless recipes on the Internet but mine is:

Whisk 2 eggs with 500 ml (2 cups) of fat free milk. Sprinkle 200 g (0.45 lbs) of white floor on the liquid preparation in little bites. Keep on whisking as you add the floor to dissolve the lumps. Add 1 tsp of baking soda and 1tbs of rhum, vanilla and cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Heat a non stick pan, scoop the batter onto the pan. Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly. Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown. Loosen with a spatula, turn and cook the other side. Serve hot, and stuff with whatever pleases your palate.

Mine are stuffed with chocolate, mango, banana and coconut jam from Martinique and honey. And I like to sprinkle vanilla, cinnamon powder, powdered ginger, grated coconut, all sort of nuts and some slices or dices of fresh fruits on.

Marc Jacobs talks to French Vogue about creativity and commerciality

Marc Jacobs discusses about his tenure at Vuitton and addresses the rumors about Dior  in French Vogue. But the most interesting part to me is how he deals with stress and creativity.

It’s a given that artists are one of a kind and therefore more sensible to pressure and afraid of the wild world outa there. I honestly think it’s bullshit as everyone of us is exposed to pressure at some points in life, and it’s all the more true in our competitive world. I can talk for white collars, because it’s the population I’m part of, but I think it’s applicable to any of the millions of slaves who got to work every day, cope with commuting, do their best at the office, and still feel irresponsible toward kids, parents, friends as they do not pay bigger attention to them.

All of us live under pressure, I mean those who’re hungry for more. But most of us cope with it because we cannot afford to just give up. And drink, do drugs or commit suicide. I’m glad to hear from an artist like Marc Jacobs that it’s his duty to cope with creativity and commerciality and to balance perfection of one collection and timely delivery for the season, and confess that he seeks help when he needs some. I’m pretty glad to read in Vogue that an artist can be grounded in reality. I’ll keep this February issue in my archives for sure.
